Harris County no longer nation’s fastest-growing, but still sees major gains in 2016

Harris County’s eight-year run as the nation’s fastest-growing county has ended, according to estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau on March 23. Maricopa County in Arizona, which is home to Phoenix, has taken its place as the county with the highest annual population growth. Between July 1, 2015, and July 1, 2016, Harris County—now the second fastest-growing county in the U.S.—gained 56,587 people, an average of 155 people per day.
